The UCAT stands for UK Clinical Aptitude Test & is required for entry to a medical/dentistry degree at many British universities. The UCAT is a computer-based test taken at Pearson Vue Centres between July & September every year.
What is tested on the UCAT?
The UCAT test consists of 5 sections. The time granted to answer the questions in each section is reflected below, & they include the additional 1 minute of time granted per section to read instructions.

When you log into your UCAT account after successfully completing the account registration process you will see a box that asks if you have a Private Access Code (PAC). These codes are only issued to candidates who have been approved to sit the UCATSA, UCATSENSA, UCATSEN50 or the OnVUE online proctored UCAT and are only valid for use after 20 June 2022 when booking opens. Candidates booking the standard UCAT or UCATSEN do not need a PAC.
Yes. If you have previously created a UCAT account please use this to book your test. You do not need to register (create an account) each year you wish to sit the test. Multiple accounts are not permitted.
If you have forgotten your username and/or password there are options to retrieve these from the sign in page. Please do not set up a new account as multiple accounts are not permitted. If you continue to have problems signing in then you need to contact Pearson VUE Customer Services.
In some cases, a name change may not be needed. Test centre staff will refer to the Pearson VUE Name Matching Guidelines to check whether variations in name are acceptable before turning any candidate away. Some common scenarios where ID would be accepted are given below:
Although you can register (create an account) from 24 May, you cannot book a test until 20 June.
The email from Pearson VUE containing your username, confirming your UCAT account has been created may have been diverted into your junk/spam folder. This email is only for your records.
If you can sign in to your UCAT Account using the username and password you set up during registration, you have successfully completed the registration process. You are now ready to book your test when booking opens.
You are only assigned a candidate ID (in the format UCAT123456) after successfully registering. You can find your candidate ID in the left corner of your account.
Registration for the UCAT is only open between certain dates. Outside of these times you will see a message that says “The feature that you are trying to access is blocked. Please try later”. Please see the UCAT Test Cycle page for details.
You are assigned a unique Candidate ID number when you create a UCAT account with Pearson VUE. The Candidate ID number is in the format (UCAT + 6 digits) and is given in the top left of your UCAT account. Your Candidate ID number should be used in all correspondence regarding the test. The test fee is payable at the time of booking by major credit card or UCAT bursary voucher.

You can only sit the test once in any test cycle and any instances of multiple testing in the same year will be treated as an example of candidate misconduct. However, there is no penalty for taking the test again in subsequent years.

Yes. Tests can be rescheduled or cancelled without charge as long as you give appropriate notice. The full policy can be found on this page Rescheduling and Cancelling.
If you miss the deadline to cancel or reschedule your test you may book another appointment (if the booking window is open) but you will have to pay again. Candidates who used a bursary voucher to pay for their test will not be issued a further voucher to cover this cost. The booking system will not let you book again until your appointment status changes to a ‘no-show’ state (usually 24 hours).
If you have met the deadline to cancel your test, a refund will be processed. Please allow up to a week for the amount to show in your bank account or refund back to your credit card. Apologies if this seems a little long but the timeframe is dictated by your bank or card issuer and Pearson VUE has no control over it.
If you need to change the version of the test you have booked, you first need to cancel your existing appointment (giving the appropriate notice). Once your appointment is cancelled the booking system will allow you to book the correct version of the test. If you have used a bursary voucher to book your test you may re-use the same code. Please note: Pearson VUE operate a live booking system so the date, time and location of your new appointment is likely to change depending on availability at the time. It is for this reason that we advise you do not book your test until you receive confirmation of your approved access arrangements.
Yes. If you have already paid for your test you can still apply for a bursary. When your application has been approved you will need will need to email Pearson VUE Customer Services with your bursary voucher code to arrange for a refund.
You need to email Pearson VUE Customer Services to arrange for a refund. Please complete ALL fields and quote your bursary voucher code for the refund to be processed. You cannot obtain a refund from the UCAT Office.

Use these five question banks to familiarise yourself with the type of questions you will see in your test. Each subtest bank contains a large number of questions which you may wish to attempt over several practice sessions.
An essential part of preparation as you near your test date should be using the four official UCAT practice tests under timed conditions. These are available in the standard UCAT and extended UCATSEN timings. We cannot offer practice tests with the timings in the UCATSA, UCATSENSA or UCATSEN50 but there are untimed versions you can utilise.


New candidates must register for a UCAT account before they can book a test. Returning candidates should use their existing account as multiple accounts are not permitted
